I have been with CarMax for over two years. During this time I have worked with great managers and coworkers, in an environment that is very welcoming. I would like to see upper management communicate more with their associates and show more care for their needs and wants. Overall it is a company I would work for again.
CarMax is a great place for diversity and inclusion. Considering the automotive industry is a predominantly male-dominated industry, they make it their mission to employ and empower women to succeed. They also make it a point to train their associates in diversity and inclusion to make sure they are respectful of everyone they may come in contact with. The training is intentional and it shows in every customer interaction.
Carmax has been a great company especially for a part timer like myself. However the company has been making policy changes that have started to hurt workers but improve stockholders more.
Working at CarMax has provided me with excellent stability and compensation as I worked in the sales department. Having the chance to explore benefits alongside co-workers who were actively engaged in various committees kept me active. Room for growth could be expanded, being that I cannot leave my sales role without accepting a flex schedule that does not meet my needs.
The company is a very good place to be and offers amazing benefits and good pay. It may just be my store that treated people this way but if not, I would not rate them so high. Two months into working there I found out I was pregnant and I was told by multiple managers that as a full time employee I would get a certain percentage of pay but not 100% because I had not been there a full year yet. I went into labor 3 weeks early and needed a emergency c-section which causes for more time to heal and two weeks after I had given birth, HR calls me to talk about my paperwork and informs me I will not get paid at all. Staying with this company with a new baby is extrmely difficult as one of the shifts is from 11am-8pm and I am not comfortable with daycare and all my family members work, however they do not offer morning part time positions, which I know because I tried to go part time during my pregnancy when I was having complications. They aren't very flexible in the slightest.
Specifically in my office at 10400 southpoint pkwy Fredericksburg, VA 22407 there was a management problem. There was a huge lack of communication that negatively impacted the entire office environment. Sometimes it felt like managers would think of the best think to do and then do the complete opposite of that.
Well, I haven't worked there much; but it appears to be a nice place to work. Customer Service is very important. We are geared towards providing vehicles to clients. There is a no-haggle pricing criterion so there isn't much of a salesperson trying to sell you something. We always work with making sure the customers are happy with their experience. All employees get a discount if they will buy a vehicle. They have a mentor program to help the new employees learn how Carmax works with fellow employees (locally & International) and customers.
The company ensures that all employees are consist in our dress and the way we communicate. They also provide tuition assistance for future goals.

The culture is inclusive. The people that work for the company are diverse. Yearly merit pay raise is nice. Affordable Healthcare offered. You're encouraged to grow in the company. Male dominated management
CarMax is by far one of the best corporate cultures to experience and work for in the U.S.
Their benefits and flexibility are amazing, but the thing I love most about CarMax is they really listen to what their associates want and are saying when asked. CarMax does their best to respond to their associate's needs and desires for the workplace.
It is a family-feel company and you know that your colleagues have your back. Their retention rate for employees is outstanding and typically a lot of people do not leave, which is a great sign.

Very friendly and diverse place to work, feels like we’re all family and I feel comfortable talking to any of my management if I have any issues.
It was a great company back in 2012 when I started. Now, they are changing sales compensation where it will be harder to make money and putting more hours to maintain your income level.
I like that CarMax has a very vigorous training program. You continue training even 6 months in. If you express interest in a different position or possibly a promotion, Carmax will work with you in getting that position.
Working for Carmax is the best decision I’ve made! They offer great benefits, pay is awesome, they work extremely well with school schedules/general schedules, staff and management is very supportive and really create a safe space/ environment for their associates!
CarMax provides all the tools and support necessary to help employees sell cars. Management is very supportive of their staff. The hours are great for part time work especially if you’re going to school.
Great people with a great environment. The people here are very encouraging and want you to succeed. The managers are easy to talk to about anything,
An enjoyable job that offered a large amount of room to grow. Excellent human resources and pleasant staff.
In all honesty, it’s a pretty fair job for college students or young adults (inventory associate). Not necessarily hard work, just many tasks with not that big of a crew on some shifts. Pay is only good if you do not have many major bills.
