Going to South Mecklenburg High School has been an experience. It's had its ups and its downs, but over the past several years, it has been fun. At the current moment South has not prepared me as well as other schools have prepared students in the area; however I am NOT blaming the staff and faculty for rather the North Carolina Education system and the Charlotte Mecklenburg School's way of handling things. CMS is known for its poor planning and sloppiness; nevertheless the teachers and the administrative staff have been excellent at doing the best one what they were given. Many of the teachers here are amazing, though there are a few bad apples, and I choose to attend South if I had to start again years ago. The school spirit is definitely felt and embraced. Overall I would rate South Meck a solid 7.5/10. It could be higher if they did start helping students with college planning a bit earlier that Senior year.
My experience with South Mecklenburg High School has been both smooth and rocky but being athlete allowed the experience to be more enjoyable. The best part of my experience is the student community between each other is very supportive and welcoming. The worst part is the student involvement that comes with the school. I believe what needs to change is bringing more effort into boosting that student involvement.
In South Mecklenburg there is a lot of diversity, almost to much I think it would be amazing if we could make it so that our standard level courses didn’t overlook people. When in the standard level class and you are excelling you can get overlooked and not paid to much attention to because you are excelling at the course. I would like that to not be the case, to give all students a chance to succeed with helpful advisors that teachers should be.
