Parent: I see how these reviews work, if the parent has a child that gives the effort that is required to succeed, then they give 4 or 5 stars, however if the child is more suitable for a city-operated public school then they give 3 stars or less... Usually the number of stars reflects on the parents more than the child or the school. The school is superb, if the child (and the parent) does the work---and that, my friends, is LIFE.... Senior: I have been at the Derryfield School for four years and can safely say that I found my people here. While the school itself has some teachers who don't teach as well as they should, the school provides a high level of education. In terms of academic rigor, there is a lot of grade inflation, but once you get to higher classes it becomes harder to "coast" when it comes to grades. There are many teachers who are trying their hardest to make everyone feel welcome in the community. The school just got a new dining commons that has amazing food which I highly recommend. The college counselors work tirelessly to help students pursue a higher degree of education. If you are looking to go to Derryfield, I would highly suggest applying!... Read 116 reviews

Sophomore: My overall experience is good and I enjoy the school. I do find that only certain teachers are actually good at their job I sometimes find that my teachers give me packets and videos to teach a topic rather than others that take notes with lectures and such. Although using AI tools like YouTube videos is reasonable I don’t appreciate having to teach myself a topic that others are paid to teach. Sophomore: Hollis-Brookline High School is a well rounded school, with many opportunities to get involved. There are numerous leadership opportunities and school staff are helpful and friendly. The school has a strong sense of community and culture, demonstrated through a heavy involvement in extracurricular activities, sports, and the much-anticipated spirit weeks. A downside to attending Hollis-Brookline High School is the early start time of 7:40 am. Compared to other schools in the area, Hollis-Brookline High School has an unreasonably early start time, although the school gets out earlier. Some students who opt to attend before-school club meetings arrive even earlier than 7:40 am. A change I would love to see is an open campus policy. Currently, the school is closed campus. Alum: I remember New Boston Central School pretty fondly. Most of, it not all, of the teachers I had here I loved. I felt that they really cared about their job and positively impacted the students. School spirit was a big focus for admin and most of the time they killed it. Other students here felt like family because of the small town connection. Parent: We just moved to town two years ago. We have young kids but one in the middle school. When we moved here, we we're a touch concerned because the facilities are a bit drab. But the education is amazing. I don't know where to start. From the dances, to sports, to the maker space and availability of teachers, we are so glad we chose Amherst over the other towns in the area. The town to the north has beautiful facilities, but the class sizes are outrageous. The town to the south we looked at is very traditional and shares their school with another town that's more rough around the edges. Amherst's schools reflect the community.
