Junior: Conestoga High School is an outstanding, exceptional, and EXTRAORDINARY institution that definitely sets the standard for excellence in HS education. I've been going through many of its rigorous classes, including the extensive selection of AP courses (which I've had good experience so far with as the teachers are superb). I'm also really proud that we consistently rank as one of the top schools in PA. Of course, how could I forget about the faculty? Us students thrive academically and personally thanks to our teachers and counselors. The extra-curriculars are great as well, we have a large variety of clubs and sports, with a lovely school community to help you out with any problems you may have. My favorite part of the school are the business and finance courses, I've taken almost every single one of them and AP Economics has to be my favorite. Sophomore: Radnor high school is a great place. As a sophomore, I have many friends of all different ages and backgrounds that will help we whenever I need help. All of the teachers are also very flexible and care for the students (with some exceptions). The only major criticism I have is with the health and English departments. The Health teachers don't sound like they know what they are doing in class, and the material taught is pointless for any 15 year old. The English department is much worse; the teachers in there are just terrible, don't prepare us for anything, and don't teach us anything. Everything else about this school is great. I get advanced on all standardized tests with minimal studying because of Radnor's strong academics. A common criticism of Radnor is its lack of diversity, however, in this school, there is little racism or discrimination, and as a minority myself, anyone can get anywhere if they try hard enough in school, not based on race.... Senior: Most of my time at the Charter School of Wilmington has been amazing. One great aspect of this school is how easy it is to create a new club. All you need is yourself and a group with the same interests. Every day, we have a 30-minute activity period. The rooms you can sign up for range from different clubs to study halls to additional academic help. The academics here are superb as well. Every teacher–and I mean EVERY teacher–is passionate about their work. They all try their best to make every lesson unique and educational. For instance, my economics teacher introduced the concept of specialization by having us create paper chains for 5 rounds. We started with 1 worker in round 1, adding 1 additional worker every subsequent round. The food here is average, as lunch is the same as in the Redclay schools. Senior: For me, Wissahickon Senior High School has been a great school, and I really feel prepared for my college endeavors. There are certain areas that certainly lack in quality, such as our lunch food and overall school spirit. However, the school's academics, resources, and programs ultimately trump these flaws. There is always a club or program available to help me pursue my interests. For example, this past summer I was able to take my years of language learning abroad to Germany as a part of our school's GAPP trip. I am also involved in a program called Allied Health, affiliated with North Montco Technical Career Center, where I can shadow medical professionals in a hospital setting. Senior: My experience at East dramatically shaped who I am as an individual and how I will move forward with my life. Unfortunately, Freshman year I struggled significantly with mental health. Despite ninth grade being considered high school it was not housed in the same building. I received little help because my grades were still adequate for the middle school advisors. However, when I got to the high school I felt heard and empowered. I had teachers who saw me as more than a singular “A” and instead as a person who they could lend a hand to. Due to the care and resources I was given by a variety of different staff, I was able to flourish and continue to work hard in every area. Parent: My son started as an AP student for his freshman year. The only positive thing he liked about the school is the Graphic Design, Spanish and lunch. Otherwise he feels very separated being in the minority group. I wish he was able to make friends like he did in middle school but, that doesn't seem to be the culture for this school. Senior: Garnet Valley High School is a great place academically with tons of school spirit. The teachers are supportive, and the community is always rallying behind our sports teams and events. But, as a Black senior, it’s hard to ignore the lack of diversity here. There’s barely any representation for students of color, and what we do have, we often have to create for ourselves. It's frustrating because while the school prides itself on its achievements, the administration tends to show more support and recognition to white male athletes, which feels unfair. Senior: West is a amazing high school I would say compared to South and East and what other teacher said this High school really made student feel like home. The teachers are so kind and helpful there weren't one teacher that I hated or was rude so that says something. West is also a safe school where they make students feel safe and welcome there has been some fight issue, but it was rare and what I could tell they take things really serious. the clubs and the activities that this school offer were excellent they offer so much opportunity where students can get involved and there honestly really fun. Senior: Downingtown East is a wonderful school that offers challenging courses such as APs and a large variety of extracurriculars, sports and clubs that have inspired my growth. I have made great and inclusive friends through my classes and extracurricular involvement in the school. There is a new lunch and learn program to further support student's growth. The new renovations and sections make the school more fabulous than before! My teachers who truly made sure I understood the material and they are there for you no matter what. What I would change is that there could be more options for lunch in the cafeteria and more resources college counseling from the school.
